DOD seeks new space-based interceptor effort in FY-20

The Defense Department is seeking $15 million in fiscal year 2020 to begin work on a space-based interceptor that could destroy an enemy ballistic missile during the boost phase of flight. Included in the request is the development of a “reference architecture” for such a weapon as well as developing an independent cost estimate, technical risk assessment, development time line and review of potential countermeasures.
