Senate confirms Hokanson as new National Guard Bureau chief

The Senate yesterday confirmed Army Lt. Gen. Daniel Hokanson to serve as the 29th chief of the National Guard Bureau.

The National Guard Association of the U.S. announced today via press release Hokanson will be promoted to four-star general and serve as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Hokanson is currently director of the Army Guard, according to the press release. He previously served as the National Guard Bureau's vice chief from November 2016 to June 2019.

The Senate also yesterday confirmed Air Force Lt. Gen. Marc Sasseville as vice chief.

In his new role, Hokanson will be responsible for 450,000 Guard soldiers and airmen and serve as a military adviser to Defense Secretary Mark Esper, President Trump and the National Security Council.

He will be replacing Air Force Gen. Joseph Lengyel, who has served as NGB chief since August 2016, according to the release.
