Startup Red 6 said today it has named Will Roper, the former Air Force acquisition chief, to its advisory board.

"In this role, Roper will lend his expertise to support Red 6's Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System," the company said.

The Santa Monica, CA-based Red 6 announced last year it had received an investment from Lockheed Martin Ventures, which it would use to accelerate the development and commercialization of ATARS. This system allows pilots flying real airplanes to maneuver against synthetically generated enemies.

Red 6 said in today's announcement that Roper and its chief executive, Daniel Robinson, "share a common vision for the future of combat training."

Red 6 is just the latest company to announce Roper's involvement. Yesterday, commercial drone company Volansi said Roper had joined its board of directors, while strategic advisory firm Pallas Advisors said last month he has taken on a part-time role as a senior counselor.
