Amentum to acquire DynCorp International

Amentum said today it has agreed to acquire DynCorp International, which would create a $6 billion contractor.

Terms of the deal between the two privately owned companies were not disclosed.

The combined company would have more than 34,000 employees in more than 30 countries.

Amentum was created earlier this year when AECOM divested its management services unit, selling it to private-equity firms American Securities and Lindsay Goldberg.

Amentum is a professional services company focused on design, planning, architecture, engineering, program management and construction management. DynCorp, which was acquired by private-equity firm Cerberus a decade ago, focuses on aviation and logistics support services.

The combination is just the latest in a busy reshaping period for government contractors. Earlier this year, Raytheon and United Technologies combined to become Raytheon Technologies, while Science Applications International Corp. added Unisys Federal in March and Leidos acquired Dynetics late last year.

Amentum's chief executive said in a statement today the addition of DynCorp will "accelerate our growth into key new markets such as aviation support services, contractor logistics support, intelligence solutions, and training."

The deal is slated to close later this year.
