Defense Innovation Unit drops 'experimental' to reflect permanence at DOD

The military's Silicon Valley start-up is no longer an experiment, according to the Pentagon's No. 2 official. The organization, known as the Defense Innovation Unit (Experimental) or DIUx, is dropping the "x" from its name and will now be known as simply "DIU," according to an Aug. 3 memo signed by Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.
