Frigate upgrade projected to cost Navy an extra $2 billion

Upgrading the baseline Littoral Combat Ship to the multimission frigate is estimated to cost the Navy an extra $2 billion, according to the Pentagon's latest selected acquisition report on the LCS program. The additional research, development, test and evaluation costs to support "frigate related design enhancements" will cost $576.6 million in then-year funding between fiscal year 2016 and FY-27, according to the December 2015 acquisition report obtained by Inside Defense .
