House Appropriators Pass $5.5 Billion Defense Spending Increase

The House Appropriations Committee has approved a $5.5 billion increase in fiscal year 2001 spending for the Defense Department in a supplemental bill intended to shore up immediate funding shortfalls. In a mark-up of the bill today, Committee Chairman Bill Young (R-FL) added an amendment that shifts funds from military construction accounts to pay for upgrades to training facilities in Japan and new fuel storage tanks in Korea.
