Labor Department: Contractors Don't Need To Send Out Sequestration-Related Layoff Notices

Defense contractors do not need to provide 60-day notices to employees possibly facing termination as a result of sequestration, according to guidance released today by the Labor Department. "To provide such notice would be inconsistent with the purpose" of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN Act, states the training and employment guidance letter signed by DOL Assistant Secretary of Employment and Training Administration Jane Oates.
