RIMPAC 2016 to feature amphibious exercises, mine warfare training

The Navy announced the official participants and goals for this summer's Rim of the Pacific exercise last week, including plans to conduct amphibious operations off the coast of Southern California and use a Littoral Combat Ship for mine warfare training. The month-long event, touted as the world's largest maritime exercise, will feature 27 countries, 2,500 personnel, 45 ships, five submarines and more than 200 aircraft, the U.S. Navy's Third Fleet announced in a May 31 advisory.
