Senate authorizers pass bill that directs Nunn-McCurdy review of carrier advanced arresting gear

The Senate Armed Services Committee has passed a defense policy bill that not only directs a Nunn-McCurdy review of the Navy's carrier Advanced Arresting Gear but prohibits procurement funding for the effort. The AAG is one of several complex technologies the Navy is developing for its newest class of aircraft carrier and will work in conjunction with the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System to launch and recover aircraft from the ship using electricity, rather than steam.
