USAF to scale back MQ-9 buys, adjust modification, R&D programs

The Air Force intends to purchase 12 General Atomics MQ-9 Reapers for $361 million in fiscal year 2020. The FY-20 budget request includes $189 million in the base budget for three aircraft and $172 million in the Overseas Contingency Operations account for nine aircraft. The average unit cost is estimated at $20 million per aircraft, which will be the highest price the Air Force has ever paid for the MQ-9.
