The Air Force has renamed 14th Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA, as Space Operations Command, redesignating civilian and military personnel in support of the Space Force.

Former 14th AF Commander Maj. Gen. John Shaw will oversee the new SPOC, according to a Dec. 31 press release.

"The SPOC provides space capabilities such as space domain awareness, space electronic warfare, satellite communications, missile warning, nuclear detonation detection, environmental monitoring, military intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, navigation warfare, command and control, and positioning, navigation and timing, on behalf of the [Space Force] for [U.S. Space Command] and other combatant commands," the press release states.

The service did not immediately provide additional detail on the new command, but stated that information about its roles and responsibilities would be released "in early 2020."
