The full Senate has approved Vice Adm. Michael Gilday's nomination to serve as the Navy's top officer.

Gilday's nomination to become the next chief of naval operations passed through the Senate Armed Services Committee by a voice vote earlier today.

Gilday yesterday appeared in front of the panel, which questioned him about issues plaguing the Navy's new Ford-class aircraft carriers. The program has faced delays, cost overruns, and issues with new technology like its Advanced Weapons Elevators.
