The White House late this afternoon announced President Trump's intent to nominate Ryan McCarthy to become the No. 2 civilian at the Army.

McCarthy most recently worked for Lockheed Martin as that company's vice president of the F-35 sustainment program, "where he implemented the restructuring and organizational redesign of the sustainment line of business," according to a White House statement. McCarthy also served as a special assistant to former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Before his previous stint at DOD, McCarthy was a professional staff member for the House International Relations Committee. Prior to that, he worked for the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corp.'s North America Unit in their private label credit card business.

McCarthy also served with the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment during the invasion of Afghanistan. He is a Virginia Military Institute graduate and earned a Master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland, according to the White House.
