The week ahead

Today is the start of the Air Force Association's annual conference at National Harbor, MD, while Defense Secretary Ash Carter is scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill later in the week.

Monday

The annual AFA conference begins with a speech by Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James and runs through Wednesday.

Carter is scheduled to speak at the Hoover Institution in Washington on innovation and U.S. defense policy.

Tuesday

The AFA conference continues featuring speeches by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein and others.

The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing to consider the nomination of Air Force Gen. John Hyten to become the next chief of U.S. Strategic Command.

Wednesday

The AFA conference continues featuring speeches by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work.

Top Navy officials speak at the International Seapower Symposium in Newport, RI, and will be livestreamed at defense.gov.

The Professional Services Council holds its Tech Trends conference in Arlington.

The House Armed Serivces Committee will host a panel of experts to discuss the “state of the fight against Islamic terrorism” 15 years after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The House Armed Services seapower and projection forces subcommittee will host a panel of outside experts to discuss strategic challenges in the South China Sea.

Thursday

Carter and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford are scheduled to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
