The week ahead

The Pentagon and State Department are scheduled to host talks with their South Korean counterparts this week, while the operation to re-take the Iraqi city of Mosul from forces led by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has begun.

Monday

The operation to re-take the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIL forces began Sunday night and is under way, according to the Pentagon.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter is expected to participate in a joint press conference with his South Korean counterpart later in the week.

Tuesday

The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments is holding a panel discussion on developing alternative defense strategies.

Defense Daily will host its Open Architecture Summit featuring speakers from government and industry.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies will host a panel discussion on public-private partnerships to invest in defense infrastructure.

The chief of U.S. Southern Command will participate in a maritime security dialogue at CSIS.

Thursday

The National Defense Industrial Association will host a technical data rights forum focused on “intellectual property strategies and impact on the defense industrial base.”
