Air Force awards $640 million in launch contracts to ULA, SpaceX

The Air Force this week awarded contracts worth more than $640 million to SpaceX and the United Launch Alliance for five future national security space missions. ULA received a $351 million launch services contract for two Air Force Space Command missions -- AFSPC-8 and AFSPC-12 -- and SpaceX was awarded $290 million for three GPS III missions. The AFSPC-8 mission includes the fifth and sixth Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program satellites, which serve what officials have called a "neighborhood watch"...
