Air Force researching airborne sensor 'cross-cueing' solutions

Air Force Materiel Command is researching industry solutions that enable airborne sensors to autonomously exchange classified signals and geospatial intelligence data.

The service is looking for white papers to "help identify what research has been accomplished in the field of sensor cross-cueing, as well as technologies that currently exist or could be modified to fill a need," according to a request for information released today.

"Candidate technologies may include on-board processing for multiple airborne sensors, and sensor technologies to increase range, resolution and/or aid in rapid targeting (geolocation models, sensor-based exploitation/recognition tools, sensor networking capabilities)," the RFI states.

AFMC is hoping to have up to one to two-year projects beginning in fiscal year 2022 with technology readiness levels between four and six, though it's not yet certain whether funding will be available.

White papers are due by Dec. 15.
