The Defense Department inspector general this month will launch an audit of “whether the Military Sealift Command ensured that prepositioning ships received required maintenance,” according to a new memo.

According to the Dec. 26 memo, sent to the assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition and the commanders of U.S. Transportation Command, U.S. Fleet Forces and Military Sealift Command, among others, the DOD IG will perform the audit at Military Sealift Command headquarters at Naval Station Norfolk, VA, and at a Military Sealift Command Ship Support Unit.

The memo notes the IG “may identify additional locations during the audit.”

“We will consider suggestions from management on additional or revised objectives,” the document adds.
